19 July 2015 – Far and Near

19 July 2015 – Far and Near
July 19, 2015 Hazel Parsons

All seeing God,
we look across wide spaces
far out to sea
and into the distance
and, as we gaze
thinking to catch a glimpse of You
far away,
You come close.

You are in the wave
lapping on the shore;
You are in the sea grass
waving in the wind
stabilising shifting sands;
You are in the blue sky
arching over our heads
and you are in each heart beat.

We reach out our arms
into the wide vista
Then find your welcome embrace
leading us back
into the world of need.
To meet people who laugh and weep;
Who sigh and grieve;
Who hope in their despair.

Give us gentle hands to touch,
Strong hands to lift;
Tender words to comfort,
The right words for injustice.
We ask for vision to see
how you would use us;
For courage to accept
the gifts you offer;
For love to surround
all we are and do.
Amen

Hazel Parsons

From July 2015 the prayers will be written and illustrated by Hazel Parsons of the Plymouth and Exeter District.  We hope that you will be able to use the prayer, reading and suggested hymn in various settings, on your own or with others.
