Scilly

My time as President of MWiB has brought me opportunities I never expected. A dream will be realised this weekend, as I travel to the Isles of Scilly to share some of the stories of MWiB with the people there. The Methodist minister on Scilly, Rev Jane Willcock, has arranged a coffee morning on Saturday and then I shall preach three times on Sunday – on St Agnes, St Mary’s and St Martin’s. I am looking forward to sharing worship with Jane, with her Anglican colleague and with other Christians on the islands, whether resident or visiting.

Hazel, who writes Prayer for the Week for this website, has told me so much about Scilly. You might remember that she has written a book, A Sense of Scilly, beautifully illustrated with her paintings and her nephew’s photographs. I have packed my copy to read on the journey and while I am there.

I had planned to fly from Exeter, my preferred mode of transport, but this morning I received a phone call alerting me to the fact that the flight may be disrupted because of the weather. In order to make sure I am there ready for Saturday morning I have decided to take the offer of a bus from Exeter to Penzance rather early tomorrow morning, in time to catch the Scillonian at 9.15.

If the internet on Scilly allows, I will try to post my own photos as the weekend progresses. For tonight I have borrowed this one. Can the colours really be as vibrant? I can’t wait to see for myself!
