York and Hull District Spring Day

York and Hull District Spring Day
May 17, 2017 Judith Simms

On Friday 28th April about 40 women gathered at Helmsley Methodist Church for the first of our Spring Days.  Helmsley is a very pretty market town in North Yorkshire.  The weather was dry but quite cold.  We had a welcome drink awaiting us as we met in the small hall around tables.  Our speaker for the day was the Bishop of Hull, Right Reverend Alison White, and what a delightful day we had!  We stayed in the dining hall as it was cool in the church.  Before lunch Bishop Alison gave us a potted history of her journey from childhood to the present time and had us hanging on every word with her humour and engaging personality.  It was then time for a bring and share lunch, which we were trying for the first time. It went very well and everyone was well fed. After lunch Bishop Alison led us in an inspiring bible study based on the Emmaus road account found in Luke’s gospel.  We all went home knowing that we had enjoyed a very special day in Bishop Alison’s company.
