Methodist ‘gatherings’ are wonderful opportunities to make new acquaintances and to catch up with friends we’ve not seen for a while. Some events are so large however that the only way to guarantee that paths will cross is to use the trusty mobile phone!
The rogue’s gallery line-up today, taken at Conference, includes two very good friends with whom, over the years, I’ve shared many happy times and sad moments too.
Arriving in Nantwich the summer of 2000, Rev’d Bryan and Credwyn Tolhurst soon demonstrated what leadership and teamwork were all about, each using their respective skills to encourage us to move forward as a mission focussed church community. We were sad to lose them but wished them well in their new ministry ten years later.
Bryan and Credwyn also ‘host’ holiday weeks in the five Christian Guild Hotels in Cumbria, Derbyshire Dales, Wye Valley, Devon and Cornwall. Following bereavement in 2004 I soon discovered that these hotels are places where one can find a truly Christian welcome, with the opportunity to mingle with others or to take time out to enjoy personal relaxation and reflection. They’re great for church away days/weekends and family fun weeks too!
I’m looking forward to meeting with Credwyn more frequently over the next three years as she takes on the responsibility of MWiB Forum representative for the South East District. Our first meeting as she embraces this role will be on Saturday 9th July at Central Hall Westminster for the ‘New Forum members’ training day. Another photo for the Blog??
