Friday 14th December 2018 -‘Hear the news the angels bring’

Friday 14th December 2018 -‘Hear the news the angels bring’
December 14, 2018 Sandra Goodwin

Each year the Methodist Church in Nantwich is decorated to reflect the Christmas message in different ways. This year’s theme is ‘Angels’. Pictured above in the worship area is an angel affectionately called Ethel, and underneath are two of the window displays, one depicting Jacob and his dream of angels descending and ascending to heaven, and the other created by the Brownies, concentrates on the characteristics of ‘human angels’.

Throughout the Old and New Testaments of the Bible angels are depicted as messengers of God to challenge, comfort  and protect. In verse 1 of the carol  by Edmund Hamilton Sears we read their message:-

‘Peace on the earth, goodwill to men, from heaven’s all-gracious King!’

However, verse 3 reminds us –  ‘Yet with the woes of sin and strife the world has suffered long – – – – – – and man, at war with man, hears not the love-song which they bring.’

Although written in the 1800’s this hymn reflects much of the world today.

So throughout this season of Advent let us pray for peace, peace throughout the nations and our neighbourhoods, peace within our families and that inner peace which God offers to each and everyone of us.

Blessings Sandra
