{"id":15396,"date":"2023-04-01T00:01:04","date_gmt":"2023-03-31T23:01:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mwib.org.uk\/?p=15396"},"modified":"2025-04-07T08:33:34","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T07:33:34","slug":"empowerment-gifts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mwib.org.uk\/index.php\/2023\/04\/01\/empowerment-gifts\/","title":{"rendered":"Empowerment Gifts"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\":g9\" class=\"ii gt\">\n<div id=\":g8\" class=\"a3s aiL \">\n<div id=\"m_1017974498837559184ydpd25af9ayiv5497664694\">\n<div id=\"m_1017974498837559184ydpd25af9ayiv5497664694ydpe0d7a9ceyiv9413086124\">\n<div id=\"m_1017974498837559184ydpd25af9ayiv5497664694ydpe0d7a9ceyiv9413086124ydp8b8715f7yiv3070141183\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><b>&#8216;Methodist Women in Britain Empowerment Gifts&#8217;<\/b><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Each year, MWiB donate \u00a315,000 in total to be shared between projects supporting work with women overseas, selected by the MWiB Trustees. <\/strong><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><strong>MWIB would prefer complete projects rather than part-funding a project.<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>Last year (2024) a total of 5 projects were supported with the total amount awarded \u00a315,000.44<\/p>\n<p>The projects were:<\/p>\n<p>Uganda \u2013 Conecengo for disabled teenage mothers and women with disabilities in the rural Busoga in Uganda:<\/p>\n<p><em>To promote inclusivity<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>To provide skills training and support<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>To improve access and use of assistive devices among disabled women and teenagers and reduce stigma of disability<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Uganda \u2013 Cofcawe Kamuli District of Rural Uganda<\/p>\n<p>Training for employment and setting up of businesses for 50 women<\/p>\n<p>Uganda \u2013 Amigos Training in menstrual health to combat period poverty and shame.<\/p>\n<p><em>Project \u2013 to improve health and education<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Bethlehem \u2013 Palestine To assist 40 women in total &#8211;<\/p>\n<p><em>Faith Training<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Counselling and self care training<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Support 10 women in self-employment, e.g. embroidery and baking\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Kenya &#8211; Support for self employment for Kalithera Womens\u2019 Tailoring Project<\/p>\n<p><em>Knitting machines and training to enable the group to start small businesses and improve their financial situation.\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"m_1017974498837559184ydpd25af9ayiv5497664694\">\n<div id=\"m_1017974498837559184ydpd25af9ayiv5497664694ydpe0d7a9ceyiv9413086124\">\n<div id=\"m_1017974498837559184ydpd25af9ayiv5497664694ydpe0d7a9ceyiv9413086124ydp8b8715f7yiv3070141183\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>MWiB will work closely with All We Can, WFM&amp;UCW and Global Relationships Partnership Co-ordinators to identify suitable projects.<br \/>\nSuggestions for recipients of this year\u2019s Empowerment Gifts are welcome.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">You are encouraged to read Methodist publications including The Connexion Magazine, Junior Mission For All \u2013 you can sign up to regular e-news from Global Relations and J.M.A. on the Methodist.org.uk website, \u2018The Tree of Life\u2019, Methodists for World Mission (MWM) magazine and Mission Partners\u2019<br \/>\nnewsletters and to select initiatives that are working to empower women through our partner churches.<br \/>\nThe initiatives should be in accordance with the aims and objectives of MWiB and meet the following criteria:1. The gift will help to advance the Christian faith &#8211; seeking \u201cto know Christ and to make him known\u201d.<br \/>\n2. The gift will help to develop the capacity and skills of women members of the Methodist Church, enabling them to participate more fully in the life of the church, their community, and society.<br \/>\n3. The gift will help to combat injustice and poverty in local communities and around the world.<br \/>\n(It may be helpful to consult the MWiB constitution for full information).<br \/>\n4. Gifts will not be made to fund capital project [building work]<br \/>\n5. Gifts will not be made to pay salary or ongoing staff costs.<br \/>\n6. The organisation must have a bank account and correct bank details must be given for a gift to be awarded.
