Adventures and stories of their time on the road filled our time for a few days as they almost fell over each other in their eagerness to report to Jesus what they had seen, heard and done in the name of God.

And now Jesus is busy again too. There never seems any opportunity to rest. Always people looking for him, seeking him out, asking for healing or simply wanting to be near him and listen to his teaching about the Kingdom of God.

I’m not surprised mind you. Everyday I’ve been in Jesus’ company and I never tire of it. I feel tired mind you, as we are constantly on the move, village to village, town to town, walking or taking the boat – and crowds everywhere we go. But Jesus seems to always have the energy to keep going and he has time for everyone.

I wish I knew the secret to his endless energy – I wonder whether its to do with the times he disappears off into the hills on his own. The disciples say that he is going off to talk to his father God – is that what renews, refreshes and re-energises him? Life is certainly non-stop at the moment and I could do with a rest.

We pray:

Lord, our lives are often so busy doing that we forget to take time out to be still and rest in your presence.

In this holiday season may we take the opportunity to recharge our spiritual batteries ready to continue the work you have called us to do.

Amen.

Bronwen Braisdell – MWiB Communications Officer

Photo by Robert Bye on Unsplash

20th July 2024 ALMOST TOO BUSY TO REST Read Mark 6: 30 – 34, 53 – 56 Reflection from the viewpoint of Deborah, an independent young follower of Jesus.
