June 14th<\/sup> – Trinity \u00a0Sunday \u2013 Psalm 8 – The Power and Peace\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/u><\/p>\n

This weekend sees us in the church celebrating \u2018The Trinity\u2019 and one of the suggested lectionary readings is Psalm 8 \u2013 a celebration of faith that expresses God\u2019s power, wisdom and love while reminding us of the responsibility of stewardship of His creation. \u00a0We frequently hear through the psalms \u00a0of God\u2019s \u00a0power being revealed on earth, in the most dramatic of natural events – thunderstorm, earthquake, flood and fire which shakes the mightiest parts of His creation, but the psalms are also songs of praise which remind us of Gods \u00a0peace, love, \u00a0calmness and reassurance.<\/p>\n

The photographs above are from my trip to Japan last year and on the day we visited the Nunobiki Falls in Kobe we witnessed a little bit of God\u2019s infinite power – the waterfall wasn\u2019t even at \u2018full flow\u2019, as the waters there don\u2019t reach their full impact until later in the year, and the photograph doesn\u2019t do it justice but they were tremendous, powerful, and so loud! But as walked further up the hills we then came across part of its source \u2013 the same resource but in a different format \u2013 and we reflected upon the thundering waterfall with the comparison of the nearby silent lake \u2013 God\u2019s creation in all its glory. And is that not what the Trinity is \u2013 God \u2013 the exact same resource \u2013 but in different formats! In the same way that God gives us opportunities of wonder and surprise \u00a0He also gives His people the blessings of peace and the revelation of His power as a source of wonder and reassurance, and not fear. This reminds us that our faith is not just about His power and might but also gentleness, grace, peace and hope \u2013 but more about hope next week\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026..<\/p>\n

Oh Lord, my God, when I in awesome wonder, consider all the worlds Thy hands have made<\/em><\/p>\n
