You, Creator-God, have written your great name on humankind;
for our growing in your likeness bring the life of Christ to mind;
that by our response and service earth it’s destiny may find.
Harvest is a time for gathering in crops, which are often stored until needed. We acknowledge that a good harvest is God’s provision for us, which in turn provides a blessing to others. Although we gather the harvest from the fields once a year, we receive the harvest of the Spirit continually. In the New Testament three types of harvest are referenced, salvation, character and blessing. Genesis Chapter 8 verse 22 says “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.”
Let us Pray: Heavenly Father we thank you for the Harvest we can gather and the generous provision from God. We think of the countries where the harvest has failed due to drought and climate change and how this affects those dependent on it. While we have plenty we remember those who struggle to provide enough food for their families. We give thanks for the fruits of the Spirit Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Goodness, Kindness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-control that keep us alert to the needs of others. May we use these gifts wisely in our daily lives. Amen
