Jesus, our Lord,
All was dark and silent
as I looked out over the fen
in the grey light before dawn.
Everything was so still
I found myself holding my breath.
Then one by one
the birds began to sing
in a joyous and exuberant chorus.
Ducks ruffled the fen water
as they emerged from the reeds.
The sun burst over the horizon
making the water sparkle and dance
as if covered in tongues of fire.
You said ‘ Whoever believes in me…streams of living water will flow from within him.’
I shivered, and breathed in deeply.
I know you are here Jesus,
I feel your spirit all around
breathing new life into my life.
You are the one true spirit giver
giving of yourself
and your love and hope and truth.
Amen Jackie Smith
