Saturday 23rd May – Under God’s wings

Saturday 23rd May – Under God’s wings
May 22, 2020 Judith Simms

He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
                                                                [Psalm 91: 4-6]

At the time of writing this, I cannot be sure whether or not we are still in lockdown, but for many I am sure that the twelve weeks isolation and shielding will still be in effect, even if some restrictions have been lifted.

I’m sure that the lockdown and isolation at this point has begun to seem endless, but it will come to an end eventually. One day we will all be able to meet together again.

Regardless of whether we are all  still in lockdown, or if only the ‘vulnerable’ are, we cannot deny that life is very different to what we know. We need to remember that we are under God’s loving wings and in the same way that God protects us with wings, we still need to shield and protect others from the dangers still present. Follow the advice that we are being given to keep others safe just as God keeps us under protection.

God who shelters us with wings,
We thank you for your love and protection.
At this time of uncertainty,
Help us to remember that we need to shelter others.
Help us to shield them with our wings,
To bring them help and support
In ways that are safe and sensible.
As we look for our own space
Help us to remember those who are still isolated,
Those who are shielded,
Those who are too afraid to step outside:
Throw your wings over them,
And over us too.
Amen
