Saturday 24th October – God, our God, blesses us

Saturday 24th October – God, our God, blesses us
October 23, 2020 Judith Simms

Psalm 64

May God be gracious to us and bless us,
and cause His face to shine upon us,
that Your ways may be known on earth,
Your salvation among all nations.
Let the peoples praise You, O God;
let all the peoples praise You.
Let the nations be glad and sing for joy,
for You judge the peoples justly
and lead the nations of the earth.
Let the peoples praise You, O God;
let all the peoples praise You.
The earth has yielded its harvest;
God, our God, blesses us.
God blesses us,
that all the ends of the earth
shall fear Him.

Harvest is a season for giving and sharing what we have, a time to give thanks for all we have been given, and to remember those less fortunate than us. There are many hymns and songs about the harvest, and as at the time of writing we can’t sing at church, I encourage you to sing your favourite harvest hymns at home where it is still possible.

Some you might want to choose from include:
~ We plough the fields and scatter (Singing the Faith 130)
~ All creatures of our God and king (Singing the Faith 99)
~ Lord of the harvest
…and there are many more (including Singing the Faith numbers 99–133).

After you have spent some time reflecting on your favourite hymns and songs, really looking at the words and considering what they mean, you may want to read the above Psalm as a prayer of praise to God, or choose one of your favourite harvest hymns and read that as a prayer of praise.
