4 Rebekah – Faith That Moves Forward

Scripture Focus: Genesis 24; Genesis 27

Meditation

Rebekah’s story begins with a simple act of kindness and unfolds into a life shaped by divine destiny. She was not seeking greatness. She was carrying water. At a well in the heat of the day, she met a tired stranger who asked for a drink. What she offered was more than courtesy—it was generosity. She drew water again and again, not knowing that every step she took toward obedience was moving her closer to God’s purpose. In one ordinary moment of service, heaven shifted her entire future.

Rebekah teaches us that destiny often meets us in ordinary obedience.

When the servant of Abraham revealed God’s plan, Rebekah was faced with a decision that would redefine her life. She would leave her family. She would leave her land. She would step into the unknown with no guarantee of what waited on the other side. And when they asked her, “Will you go?” she answered with courage: “I will go.” Those three words changed her life forever.

Faith does not always come with full understanding. Sometimes it only comes with a call. Rebekah did not know Isaac, did not know the land, did not know the challenges ahead—but she knew God was guiding her. And that was enough.

Yet Rebekah’s story also reveals the complexity of faith. Years later, when God’s promise to her sons seemed threatened, she took matters into her own hands. Fear replaced trust. Control replaced waiting. And the deception that followed fractured her family.

Rebekah reminds us that the same woman who can walk boldly by faith can also stumble when fear takes over. She believed God’s promise—but she feared losing its fulfilment. Instead of waiting on God’s timing, she tried to manage the outcome.

Still—God was faithful. Even through human weakness, God’s purpose stood. His plan did not collapse because of her mistake. His promise did not fail because of her fear.

Rebekah’s life teaches us two powerful truths:

  1. Faith requires courage to move forward.
  2. Faith also requires patience to wait for God’s way.

We often stand at our own crossroads saying, “I trust God,” while still trying to control the outcome. Like Rebekah, we believe the promise—but struggle with the process.

Rebekah asks us this question today: Will I move when God calls? And will I wait when God is working? True faith requires both movement and surrender. You may be at your own well today—serving faithfully, unaware that God is preparing a divine shift. Or you may be at a place of waiting, tempted to take control instead of trusting timing.

Rebekah’s story assures us of this: God is faithful in our obedience. God is patient in our weakness. God is unstoppable in His purpose. Even when our faith falters, His faithfulness does not.

Reflection Questions

  • Where is God asking me to move forward in faith right now?
  • Where am I tempted to take control instead of trusting God’s timing?
  • Do I trust God not only with the promise—but with the process?

Prayer

Lord, give me the courage to say yes when you call and the patience to wait when you are at work. Help me trust you not only with the dream but with the journey. I surrender control back into Your hands today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
