“Let us keep our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith”. Hebrews 12 v.2
Have you noticed that Christmas seems to show up in our shops earlier each year? Many shops have had Christmas decorations on display since August , right next to ‘Back to School’ and Halloween. Why is there this insane rush from one thing to the next? But there is a way to step off this crazy train and reclaim Christmas. What’s the secret? Having a singular focus, we can choose to not rush the celebration of Christ’s birth. Through this Advent season let us follow Paul’s advise and keep our eyes on Jesus. How nice will it feel to take a deep breath and before we let ourselves feel weighed down with all the preparations, focus on the blessing of the baby born in the manger to save us from our sins? So let us move forward in joy, giving Christ our full attention.
We Pray –
You, Lord, are worthy of our focused attention. Help us to fix our gaze upon Your goodness and not be distracted by things that are not important. As we move into this season of Advent prepare us for the real reason for this season of Christmas, Your birth when You came down to earth to save us from our sins. But as we look forward with anticipation let us be aware of those around us for whom this time of the year brings anxiety and sadness. Be with them, Lord, and help them through Your grace and love. Amen.
