Mary – A Yes That Changed the World

Mary was not sought out because she was powerful. She was chosen because she was willing. She was young, unknown, and living an ordinary life in a small town when heaven interrupted her world with an impossible assignment. An angel stood before her and spoke words that would alter history: “You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.”
In a single moment, her future changed forever. Mary did not respond with instant celebration. She responded with honest questions. Fear was present. Confusion was real. The cost was undeniable. She would face misunderstanding, public shame, uncertainty, and the risk of losing everything she loved. Yet, after all the questions… after all the fear… after all the unknowns… Mary spoke one of the most powerful sentences ever uttered by human lips: “Be it unto me according to your word.” This was not the ‘yes’ of a girl who understood everything. It was the ‘yes’ of a heart that trusted God more than comfort. Mary teaches us that obedience does not require full understanding, only full surrender.
She carried Jesus in secret long before the world celebrated him. She held the Saviour beneath her heart while quietly enduring whispered judgments and unspoken rejection. Her faith was not loud. It was deep. Mary treasured things in her heart long before she saw their meaning.
Then came the stable. The manger. The Child. She held the Son of God in her arms, not as a queen on a throne, but as a humble mother wrapped in straw and wonder. The miracle came quietly. The promise arrived without fanfare and the weight of eternity rested in her trembling hands.
Mary’s calling did not end with Bethlehem. Years later, she would stand at the foot of a cross. The same child she once cradled, she now watched suffer. The same miracle she celebrated, she now surrenders again. While the world mocked him, she remained. While others fled, she stayed.
Mary shows us that:
- Obedience is born in surrender.
- Faith grows in silence.
- And calling often carries a hidden cost.
She did not understand every step. She did not control every outcome but she trusted the One who did. Mary’s life reminds us that God often plants the greatest miracles in the humblest hearts. He does not look for perfection he looks for willingness. He does not wait for readiness. He creates it through obedience. You may feel ordinary today. You may feel unseen and unprepared.
Mary’s story whispers this truth to your heart: God chooses unlikely vessels to carry eternal purpose. Your yes matters more than your résumé. Your surrender matters more than your certainty and when you say ‘yes’ to God, even with trembling hands, he can change the world through you.

Prayer
Father, like Mary, I offer you my yes. Even when I do not understand the full plan, I choose to trust your heart. Shape my life through surrender, grow my faith through obedience, and use me for your glory in ways far greater than I can imagine. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
