As I prepare for my next MWiB residential in East Anglia this coming weekend, I am reflecting on the fun and fellowship of last weekend with these women of the York and Hull District. This photo is a special one. Mary, in blue in the centre, displayed amazing spirit and persistence as she made paper boxes and foil stars, despite suffering from both wet and dry macular degeneration. She gave me all sorts of ideas about adapting the activity for future groups, which I shall put into practice.
One of the exciting pieces of work being undertaken by MWiB at the moment, together with Shoreline Conversations, is to develop and produce resources which are as accessible as possible to those with visual impairments. Mary and her friend June (in green beside her) are hoping to assist us in the research and consultation towards this, which will take place in mid-May at Windermere Manor, a Vision Hotel. As I write this I am thinking of these women with whom I spent last weekend and who received me so warmly, and giving thanks for all that they taught me.
