For the past two weeks I have not travelled anywhere by train and I have not packed or unpacked a suitcase. It has been a change to have a period of time based back at home, catching up with friends and being more involved in things in my own community.
Yesterday Ken and I spent time with a group of ten children from Chernobyl who are staying in our area, enjoying the Devon countryside, receiving treatment from dentists and opticians and being hosted by local people who have opened up their homes to them.
The children gave us a gift of a beautiful table runner, with the words ‘God will save you’ written on it in Russian. That will be a precious keepsake and memento of our afternoon with them.
Tonight the suitcase is packed again and tomorrow I shall board the train for London to travel to Methodist Conference. I look forward to seeing many of you in Westminster.
