Today has been special, in particular being present at an ordination service this afternoon in St Margaret’s Church, Westminster Abbey, the same church where two weeks ago MPs gathered to remember Jo Cox, whose life was cruelly taken as she went about her work as an MP in her own constituency of Batley and Spen. Tributes to Jo still remain across the road from the church, including this graffiti wall.
The words above from the prophet Micah have challenged me over the years, but very especially in recent weeks. At the close of Conference worship this morning we were invited to take a wristband bearing the words of Micah chapter 6, verse 8. I know someone who has these words tattooed on his arm. I have often looked at that tattoo and wished I was brave enough to have the same! Now maybe I can compromise by wearing the wristband instead.
But of course wearing it is not enough. We have to ‘do’ justice, we have to love kindness (or mercy), we have to walk humbly with our God – and each of us needs to work out what that looks like for us.
