Monday felt very long for those of us who had got up early to check in at Heathrow Terminal 5 at seven o’clock in the morning for our trip to Houston. When we landed after our ten-hour flight we were met by our hosts and after rather a long wait at the airport we eventually made our way by bus to our hotel.
The 13th World Assembly of the World Federation of Methodist and Uniting Church Women opened at seven in the evening, which was of course one in the morning back at home in the UK! We worshipped and celebrated together, with some of the music provided by Jenny Pathmarajah from East Anglia. At the close of worship we enjoyed cultural entertainment provided by the host Unit.
Rachel Allison, our new Helen Kim Memorial Scholar, and Alison Judd have been in Houston for the last couple of days, so had been able to send back messages like ‘no need to bring travel kettles’ and other useful information. I shall post this now before a rather short night and will look forward to sharing further news of the Assembly with you in this blog over the coming week.
