Jesus, our Lord,
I love making bread –
mixing the flour
with crumbly yeast and water.
The feel of kneading the dough,
pushing and stretching
until it becomes smooth.
Then the mystery of rising
and eventually baking.
Oh the aroma of freshly baked bread
filling the house –
and finally the taste.
Heaven!
You said ‘I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry.’
You talked about yourself as bread,
and gave bread to the crowd.
You gave of yourself,
and still give of yourself
to those who come to you
never turning anyone away.
You meet our deepest needs,
keeping our faith and hope alive.
You are the living bread that came from God.
Now that really is Heaven!
