I wrote on 17 September about Alison Judd’s recent visit to Ireland to attend the the installation of Linda McGuffin as President of Methodist Women in Ireland. I have now received this lovely photo of Linda, as there was no picture of her in the first set of Alison and Les’s holiday snaps. I asked Alison to share a little more with us about the installation service. She writes:
“Linda’s theme for her two years in office is ‘God is able’ and this was developed throughout the well planned service, led partly by Charlotte Maye, the out-going President, and attended by women from all over Ireland and also by Rev Brian Anderson, Connexional President and Mr Ken Twyble, Lay Leader of the Methodist Church in Ireland. Charlotte presented an informative Powerpoint report of activities over the last two years. Linda explained how she did not feel qualified to take on such a role and yet she had been led to realise that God is able to supply all she needs. She testified to how God had done so in the past in various churches served by her minister husband and herself. She affirmed her belief in God who was even now able to do more than she could ask or think, and she encouraged us all to put our trust in the God who is able to be our vision for the future.”
As I read those closing comments of Alison’s report, my mind went instinctively to these strengthening and encouraging words from the letter to the Ephesians, found at the end of chapter three: ‘Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.’
