I promised to post more photos from the Swanwick weekend and have been trying to decide which ones to choose. I did not have time to take many, but I did capture the giant puppets from Leicester. Revd Rachel Parkinson and her colleague, John, came to run a workshop and then to rehearse some of our women for the evening performance of the Old Testament story of the calling of Samuel. A prerequisite to being inside one of the giant puppets was to be at least 5′ 9″ tall and have no back problems! Linda Crossley, Vice President, is inside Hannah, the large blue puppet on the far right. You can see the scale against Gillian and Jennifer, to the right of the puppets!
Larger than life. The script of the story of Samuel’s call was exaggerated and updated and full of humour. It brought the old story to life for me in a new way.
How do we communicate the stories which are fundamental to our Christian faith? How can we communicate our own stories of faith to others, with honesty and with integrity, but in a way that draws them to Christ himself? I wonder whether we do this best when we focus less on our words and more on our actions.
“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Words of Jesus, as recorded in John 13: 35.
