Opening exhibition Epworth Old Rectory

Today saw the culmination of months of planning, as about eighty people came to Epworth Old Rectory from across the Connexion to celebrate the official opening of the MWiB exhibition, ‘Transforming the world from the Kitchen’. Amongst them we welcomed a Methodist Archbishop from Nigeria and our own guests from North India. After Dr Jill Barber had cut the ribbon across the front door there were tours of the house and exhibition and opportunity to visit the shop, the garden and the refectory.

We then moved down to Wesley Memorial Church and continued the programme as we gathered in the church to listen to presentations by Sarah Braisdell, our researcher, and Jill Barber. Thanks were expressed to all the people who have contributed to the exhibition in so many ways and the afternoon concluded with tea and animated conversation around the tables.

The words which will remain with me were quoted by Jill at the end of her talk. They were words spoken by Susanna Wesley: “There are two things to do about the gospel – believe it and behave it.”
