I took this photograph of the London Eye as I enjoyed time on the South Bank yesterday morning, before attending a meeting at Baker Street in the afternoon.
As the MWiB executive officers met today in Methodist Church House, Gillian received a text message, asking if she was OK? That was the first intimation of the dreadful attack at Westminster this afternoon, in which, according to this evening’s news, four people have died.
As Carolyn and I made our way across to Paddington after the meeting, my mobile phone rang. A member of the MWiB Forum wanted to check that we were safe. Other messages of concern followed, via emails, texts and messages. As we sat on the train home I emailed the Forum and sent messages to other friends and family who might be concerned if they had heard the news from London.
Tonight our prayers are with all those who were involved in today’s terrible events in any way. The President and Vice-President of the Methodist Conference, the Revd Dr Roger Walton and Rachel Lampard, have called for prayer during this time following the attacks.
“We ask all Methodists to join us in prayer as we unite with others across the UK in the wake of today’s attack at Westminster. We pray for those who were attacked and their families, for the emergency services who responded so quickly and for the whole country at this time.”
