A couple of days ago I shared a photo of my mother and younger daughter Becky relaxing over tea and scones in Woburn. They feature in today’s blog too, sharing another favourite pastime – jigsaws.
As a family we have got into the habit, over the years, of buying jigsaws for Mum from charity shops, bring and buy stalls and other money raising events. Over the years Mum has completed a vast variety of jigsaws, scenic ones, amusing ones, ones with a different picture on both sides, she enjoys them all!
Unfortunately, having spent hours, sometimes days or even weeks, sorting out and fitting together the pieces, Mum will occasionally find that a piece is missing. This she finds really frustrating and disappointing. Whether it’s a 250 or 2,500 piece jigsaw every single piece is important, a missing piece results in an incomplete picture. Each piece is unique, important, an essential part of the whole.
We are beautifully and wonderfully made by God, each a part of his picture. Just as each piece of the jigsaw are important to my mother, so we are unique and important to God. We each have an individual part to play in life’s rich tapestry and in the church of Christ.
‘The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ – – – – – – 1 Cor 12:12
