8th July Listening – 1 John 4 vv 4-6
You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world and the world listens to them. We are from God and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognise the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood.
Sometimes people need to have a listening ear to express their thoughts and worries and as part of our witness we should learn to listen. The Spirit of God will guide and help us to listen first and will prompt us if we need to respond and God will hear them when they call. As God love us so we should show love to one another by listening and acting if necessary.
Thank you Lord that you are at work in our lives, help us to be sensitive to the needs of those around us that we might grow in faith and be loving servants of Your will. Lord you give us all that is good, may we learn to use four gifts wisely and for the benefit of those who we meet daily. Day by day Dear Lord of these three things I pray to see thee more clearly, to love thee more dearly, to follow thee more nearly day by day. Amen
