CoChair North, Ruth’s Blog: 20th May 2024
Greetings!
It has been quite a busy weekend. On Saturday, it was the Methodist Women in Britain Garden Party at Epworth Old Rectory, so I drove over to Epworth from Nantwich. The sun shone and it was warm enough for us all to sit out in the garden which looked beautiful! Dr Ruth Slatter and Dr Hannah Worthen, spoke to us about their research work using the Methodist Women’s Collection, which is now housed at the Old Rectory. It was fascinating to hear about various items in the collection which tell of the history of Methodist Women’s groups and their, and our, work for justice. We were able to visit the Women’s Exhibition and tour the house. Their research continues so we look forward to hearing from them again.
After a wonderful afternoon tea, Rev Angie Long, District Chair for Lincolnshire, led us in a service about Women in the Bible and we sang our hearts out with new words to a familiar tune. It was a day of friendship, education, worship and fun. It was lovely to chat to you all, especially those who had come for the first time. We hope those had gathered there enjoyed it too. My thanks to the staff and volunteers at Epworth Old Rectory, to our two speakers, to Rev Angie Long and especially to Bronwen Braisdell, our Communications Officer, who had organised the day.
On Sunday, my husband and I took the service at our local church and then in the afternoon we had our Circuit Easter Offering Service. All in all, it was a brilliant weekend. Now for a break and then a trip to Porto for the World Federation of methodist and Uniting Church Women, European Assembly. Life is never dull!
Blessings
Ruth
