Luke 11 v 28. Blessed, rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.
Are you good at listening? Jesus calls us blessed if we, not only LISTEN to the word of God, but HEAR it. I have a box of promises containing “101 Blessings from God’s Word”, which I dip into regularly in quiet moments. The verses always speak to me as I listen with my eyes.
It is interesting to note that LISTEN and SILENT are spelled with the same letters!
James, in his letter, has a lot to say about listening, speaking and doing, (James 1 vv19 -20) but one of my favourite verses is James 4 v8. “ Come near to God and He will come near to you. “
Right at the beginning of the Bible we are told that we are created and blessed by God,( Genesis 1 vv 27 – 28a ),and by the end of Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus gives us the great commission finishing with the promise that, “ I am with you always to the very end of the age. “ No matter what we may face, we have that blessed assurance.
PRAYER
Everyday God, bless us with your presence today as we walk, as we talk, as we listen and as we learn. We don’t know what lies ahead for us, but we hold on to your promise that you will walk with us. Help us to feel you supporting us in dark times when the going gets rough, and rejoicing with us when the path is smooth and the sun shines.
I am listening Lord for thee. Master, speak o speak to me!
AMEN
