Return Home – Prayer for Hope
God Almighty, Abba Father, you are everywhere, you know when I lie down and when I get up
You are God on the Mountain and God in the Valley You are All knowing, you are all seeing, your goodness follows me.
Like the prodigal, I return home, I stare at the rubble my home has now become
I look around bewildered, my neighbourhood is destroyed, my land is a strange place, no trees are growing. Screams of wailing and words of bitterness fill the air.
As I look on all this destruction, I am filled with despair
I cry, but no tears come, I shout but there is no sound
How can I praise you in this strange land, with so much pain and loss. I ask you to free me from bitterness, help me to see you even in all this emptiness, for your mercies endure forever
You can change my rags into radiant garments, and you welcome me. I fall at your feet, and I cry out My Lord and My God, let your peace rest upon me.
Then I too will join in the song of my ancestors
Free at last Free at Last, thank God almighty I am free at Last
Amen –
