I started to write this blog yesterday but did not complete it. When I returned to it this morning I wondered whether I had missed the opportunity to write about the subjects which I had begun to consider.

Yesterday was designated as the United Nation’s International Day of the Girl Child. It was also World Mental Health Day. Both days serve to remind us of major issues of which we need to be aware and around which we should be active in our society and in our world. Those of us on Facebook and Twitter were challenged by various organisations and individuals to reflect on the position of girls across the world. I was also inspired by various videos and other posts about the need to see mental health similarly to physical health and to work to fight against stigma.

Designated days are good, but the issues last longer than a day, or a week. There is no time limit on the call to be more aware, more proactive, more concerned and engaged. If yesterday’s specially designated days passed you by, there is still time to think and to pray and perhaps also to act in some way to support people for whom these issues are life-affecting and life-changing.
