A while ago I mentioned my love of gardening and the fact that I have a patch of nettles which now forms part of a ‘wildlife’ section. Some species of butterflies lay their eggs on nettles and this year we’ve had the pleasure of seeing many ‘Red Admirals’ which are becoming quite rare in Britain.
After my commissioning as MWiB President in July I received many beautiful cards and gifts which I shall treasure for many years and some of which will travel with me as I visit different areas of the Connexion. Pictured above is a cross-stich embroidery worked by my friend Credwyn who is the new Forum representative for the South East District and will shortly be joining me from Kent.
The butterfly logo, made up of the letters MWiB surrounding the cross, was chosen after a lot of thought and over the years has symbolised many aspects of our growth and work.
This morning, as I pack files, papers and, maybe a few clothes, for our Autumn Forum at Swanwick I think once again of a butterfly – the Monarch butterfly.
Monarchs are amazing. In September/October they perform their annual migration, flying south thousands of miles from North American and Canada to Mexico. It’s reputedly one of the most spectacular natural phenomena in the world.
Today, maybe not quite so spectacularly, or as delicately as the butterfly, our Forum representatives and exec team will be travelling many miles from every Methodist District across the UK to gather at Swanwick.
We pray for safe journeys and, as we gather together, we pray for God’s guidance in our discussions, debates and decision-making.
