David and I recently had the pleasure of attending the welcome service of Rev Peter Bates at Collingham Methodist Church in Nottinghamshire. During the service I was presented with a £4,479 cheque by Superintendent Minister Rev Philip MacDonald, pictured above. This money has been raised by the circuit over the last year in support of the MWiB Dalit Solidarity campaign bringing the total amount to over £100,000,
Many, many thanks to those of you who have contributed both financially and by raising awareness of the issue of caste discrimination since the MWiB campaign began over 4 years ago. The fight for human rights and justice for the Dalit community, not only across Asia but also in the UK continues. Our Dalit Solidarity Awareness information/worship material will soon be available to download from this website.
In the UK discrimination because of caste is not currently included in the Equality and Human Rights Act. There is an online petition and questionnaire which can be found on the DSNUK website. The deadline for submissions to the petition is Sept 16th . www.dsnuk.org
