Reduce Reuse Recycle
During my recent visit to Rwanda I visited the National Environmental Centre. Rwanda is recognised as the cleanest country with environmental policy at the heart of its future development. Legislation has banned plastic bags within the country and a policy called Umaganda enhances community involvement in the environment. During my stay in the capital Kigali I can honestly say I saw no litter on the streets.
This amazing structure in front of the Environmental Centre has been created from plastic bottles. Inside over two floors a bright and interactive tour offered in detail how companies and individuals could become involved in achieving a high income carbon neutral Rwanda in the future central to the policy og Vision 20/50
The Rwandan Environmental policy is centred on achieving a clean, healthy and resilient environment that supports sustainable development and a high quality of life for Rwandans. Everywhere I visited there was clear evidence of public information signs reminding people of what they could do to protect the environment. Within the churches there was clear evidence that the idea of Reduce Reuse Recycle was integral to their day to day witness. We could learn a lot from them.
