Today has been busy, with District Synod in Bideford all day and this evening final preparations for three services tomorrow. I am blogging again from the diary which I kept during my visit to the German Methodist Church, where I stayed in various communities over the course of two and a half weeks in the summer.
One afternoon I was taken by one of the Bethesda deaconesses to a church where there was an impressive exhibition about the Confessing Church and also a new synagogue, built on a piece of land ‘sold’ by the church to the local Jewish community for a nominal price. We ate waffles, drank coffee and rode the Schwebebahn, Wuppertal’s famous overhead railway, which really does swing as it crosses the city!
In the evening I spent time with Schwester Ursel, whose love of her work with people with dementia, and their carers, was clear. We shared ideas and I promised to send her a copy of our Dementia Friendly Church resource pack when it is released. Writing this blog reminds me that I must put one in the post to her!
