So today I share my most memorable kingfisher moment. I will try to simply tell it as it happened and leave it with you.

A few years ago we had a bereavement in the family which was particularly difficult. One day not longer afterwards I was in the bedroom of the house directly overlooking the canal. We might sometimes see the kingfisher from that room. As I cleaned the room, feeling quite low, I said to God “I would love to see a kingfisher” and carried on cleaning. It was a sort of prayer, but prayed with no faith whatsoever that it would be answered. Seconds later I looked out of the window and there, on a bush on the far bank, was what I thought was a kingfisher. I had to look closely to be sure, as the bird was sitting facing me, so I saw orange rather than blue. After a while, perhaps thirty seconds, it flew off.

Some will say “So what? You saw a bird!” Some will dismiss the incident as a coincidence. But for me, in that moment, it was as if God said “I am here”.
